Dr Taru-Maija Kokkonen, Chartered Psychologist

Dr Kokkonen is an experienced Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a Chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS). Taru has worked over ten years in the NHS and the private sector, offering psychological assessment and interventions to children, families and adults, and supporting staff through consultation, training and supervision.  She has extensive experience of working therapeutically with children, adolescents and families in a range of settings including Early Years Psychology, Paediatric Psychology and Child and Adolescent Mental Health services.


Taru's experience of working with adults include clinical health psychology, pregnancy advisory and perinatal services, and mental health settings.

Taru is trained in a number of evidence-based psychological therapies. The approaches she draws on include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Systemic and couples therapy, Motivational interviewing, Mindfulness, Compassion Focused Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Taru is an integrative psychologist, using her training and experience to tailor her support to each individual, couple or family. She has completed Incredible Years parent group leader training, and her work with parents is informed by this evidence-based approach.
